! Changes to the NHSE Core Collection

Unfortunately, due to financial pressures NHS England has been unable to renew some of the NHS England Core Collection resources. This means that from 1st July 2025 Barts Health staff will no longer have access to the following:

  • ProQuest (including AMED, British Nursing Index, Health Research Premium Collection, PsycINFO & PsycARTICLES)
  • Oxford University Press (Handbooks & Textbooks collection)

The original announcement is available here. If you would like to send feedback to NHS England about the changes, please complete this form or email directly.

The announcement came after the majority of the Barts Health KLS resource budget for 2025/26 had already been committed, so we are sadly unable to pick up the subscriptions ourselves.

We appreciate it is disappointing to lose access to these resources, but we encourage you to contact us directly if you would like to discuss this further.

Our libraries

We provide a full range of support services, including:

Using our libraries

Joining the library

Membership to the library is available to all Barts Health staff, students on placement and volunteers. Prospective new members will be asked to produce proof of employment, normally a staff ID. Students will be asked to produce their university photographic ID badge on their first visit.

Please either register online or visit one of our libraries during staffed hours to complete a membership form.

Books

Members can borrow up to eight books, our loan period is three weeks and books can be renewed up to three times. Members can have access to our subscription content and may request items which are not in our collection through our interlibrary loans and document delivery services.

We also support staff with additional support needs by providing longer loan periods on our books, or by checking to see if a title is available as an ebook for you in order to increase the font size or make it more accessible. If you have any additional support needs at all that the library can accommodate, please let us know.

‘Click and collect’ book loan service

The 'Click and Collect' service allows borrowers to reserve the books they want from our collection and then choose the site they wish to collect the books from, all via the catalogue website.

  • Browse our collection
  • Reserve the items you wish to borrow
  • We will contact you when the book is available for collection at your preferred site (usually within 5 working days if it is not already on loan)

You will need your username and password to reserve items using the catalogue. Your login details can be found on your welcome email or request a reminder on the site.
